Mixed week for the Mustangs. Varsity football won on the road at Plano, 45-3, moving to 2-0 on the season. Volleyball had a tougher stretch, a five-set loss to Richardson and a loss to Wylie East, dropping to 11-16 overall and 0-1 in district play. No city council or school board action this past week.
City Hall
Sachse City Council meets Tuesday, September 8, with two big items on the agenda: adopting the FY2026-27 city budget and ratifying the property tax rate that goes with it. The proposed rate is $0.650416 per $100 of assessed value.
What this means: for a home assessed at $300,000, the city portion of the tax bill would be about $1,951 for the year, based on the $0.650416 rate applied to each $100 of assessed value. This is the city's rate only, not the total bill, which also includes Garland ISD, Dallas County, and other entities.
Also on Tuesday's agenda: an update from the Bond 2027 Committee, and a item related to Industrial Drive.
Schools
Garland ISD's Board of Trustees holds a Bond Special Meeting on September 8 covering an update on the 2023 bond program and a contract item for Gilbreath-Reed CTC. Nothing on this week's Board Bond Special Meeting agenda specifically affects Armstrong Elementary, Sewell Elementary, Hudson Middle School, or Sachse High School beyond the district-wide bond update.
