TLDR

Mustangs football went 1-1 this past week: a 36-10 win over Lakeview Centennial on Oct. 22 moved the team to 8-0, but a 21-16 loss at Wylie East on Oct. 29 handed Sachse its first defeat and the District 9-6A title. Sachse still clinched a playoff spot and finishes the regular season 8-1 overall, 5-1 in district. Volleyball's season ended Oct. 30 with a straight-set bi-district playoff loss to Rockwall, closing out the year 20-21 overall after a 23rd consecutive trip to the postseason. Cross country runners Samuel Ledbetter and Dominic Richardson both qualified for the state meet at the Region II-6A meet. No Sachse City Council meeting was held this past week; the Oct. 26 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting was cancelled, and the Bond 2027 Committee met to discuss potential projects. Garland ISD's board held its regular meeting Oct. 27.

City Hall

City Council meets Monday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m. and has several items on its agenda packet. On the consent agenda, council will consider a resolution accepting the 2026 Collin County Tax Roll, a resolution adopting an updated investment policy for the city and related entities, declaring a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe surplus for online auction, and setting the 2027 council meeting schedule.

❝

What this means: Accepting the county's tax roll is a procedural step, not a vote on tax rates. It's the city formally acknowledging Collin County's record of property values for 2026, which feeds into budget math already finalized in September. No new tax rate is being set at this meeting.

Also on Monday's agenda: an ordinance amending the city's health and sanitation code to add rules for public and semi-public swimming pools and consolidate rental registration and donation bin rules into one chapter, with a maximum fine of $2,000 for violations; board and commission appointments; and a discussion of the city's cost recovery policy. In executive session, council will discuss a potential economic development incentive for BH Invesco, LLC, tied to a project near Bunker Hill Road and Miles Road; no dollar figure is listed in the posted agenda.

The city's Bond 2027 Committee met Oct. 27 to discuss potential bond projects, per its agenda; no new project list or dollar figures were posted this time. The Oct. 26 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting was cancelled because no items were ready for review. The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee meets Nov. 5 but has only routine minutes approval and a general discussion item on its agenda.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, is Election Day for the November 2026 general election. Registered voters can vote at any vote center in their county of residence; see the city's election notice for details.

Schools

Garland ISD's board of trustees held its regular meeting Oct. 27. The board's agenda included several district-wide items: budget transfers and amendments to the General Fund, Debt Service Fund, and Student Nutrition Services Fund for 2026-2027; a public hearing on the district's School FIRST financial rating report; a public hearing and action on 2026-27 Targeted Improvement Plans and Turnaround Plans; and approval of the 2026-27 District and Campus Improvement Plans. The board also considered new bids for software and instructional technology purchases.
